Kenya Jovette
Riley
March 3, 1974 – April 18, 2026
Kenya Jovette Riley Life Reflections Kenya Jovette Riley was born to Sandra Riley and Robert Bender in Joliet, Illinois, entered this world on March 3, 1974, bringing with her a bright spirit, a bold presence, and a heart that always beat with love. From the very beginning, she carried a spark that made her unforgettable - lively, outspoken, and unafraid to take charge when life called for it. Even as a child, Kenya had a way of gathering people, guiding them, and making sure everyone felt included and cared for.
Her Early Years in Kenya: She grew up surrounded by family, laughter, and the kind of love that shaped her into the woman she would become. Her youth was full of energy and curiosity. She loved being around people, especially children, and she had a natural ability to make you laugh, feel seen, and supported. Those who knew her in her youth would definitely say she was the life of the party, wasn’t afraid to speak her mind, and always wanted to do for others.
As she grew into adulthood, Kenya’s personality only deepened. She remained lively, a little bossy in the most endearing way, and always ready to bring joy into any space she entered. She loved having fun, loved being around family, and loved pouring into the people she cared about. People gravitated toward her - they felt her lively nature, her humor, and her ability to make even ordinary moments feel special.
Kenya was known as the “teacher” of the family, a role she carried with pride. She earned a Medical Administrative Assistant Certification from Everest College, and her love for children led her to pursue and receive an Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education and Development from Rasmussen College. From the very beginning, Kenya was the one who taught children in the family their primary learning skills like the alphabet, numbers, and writing, delivering with her signature firmness and high expectations.
Kenya lived her life with intention, passion, and a deep sense of loyalty. She was the kind of woman who showed up — for family, for friends, for anyone who needed her. She loved deeply, laughed loudly, and embraced life fully. Her presence was a gift, her honesty was refreshing, and her love was steady. She leaves behind memories that will continue to echo in the lives of all who knew her.
Kenya leaves to cherish her memory and celebrate her legacy: her father, Robert Bender; sister, Kimisha (James) Bell and her brother, Artemion Riley: aunts, Robin Riley, La’Rethia Collette, Jeannine (Willie) Agee: uncles, Leonard (Cheryl) Riley, Douglas (Donna) Beavers and Levell (Vivian) Hayes; niece, Ah’Jenique Pinnick and nephew, Elijah Nixon; special cousins, Lisa Riley, Nakia Smith, Francine Riley, Frances (Jaron) Moulton, Leonard (Hana) Riley and Lynara Riley; godsons, Jayceon Toney and, Jayvion Strong; special friend, Angela Brown; and a host of cousins, extended family and friends.
Kenya passed away on Saturday, April 18, 2026. She is preceded in death by: her mother, Sandra Riley; maternal grandparents, Miller Riley and Frances Riley; paternal grandmother, Velma Beavers; uncles, Lawrence Riley and Christopher Beavers; aunts, Janet Shoemaker, Delores Riley, Dorothy Hayes, and Patsy Jasper; and godson, Devontae Nash.
Though she is no longer with us in body, her spirit, her laughter, and her love will remain forever. Kenya’s life was a testament to joy, strength, and the beauty of being unapologetically oneself. Her memory will continue to guide, comfort, and inspire those who loved her most.
