Walter James Allen (Shortdog), a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, and a devoted follower of Christ,  who peacefully departed this life and transitioned into a new life on Thursday, August 21, 2025, in Houston, Texas, surrounded by his family. He was 80 years old. Walter was born on September 8, 1944, in Brookhaven, Mississippi, to Houston and Doretha Allen.

He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Jean Allen, and his daughters Elana (Troy) Marsh, Elette (Mandela) Burwell, Erica (Jeff) Crawford, and Johann Fragd. He was the proud grandfather of Ricky Coleman Jr., Ryan Marsh, Malik Martin, Julian Frazier, Riley Marsh, Jaiden Burwell, Amaree Burwell, Anaya Crawford, and Yashua Crawford.

Walter is also survived by his siblings Doris Bruton, Beverly Hill, and Peggy Jeffries, as well as multiple nieces and nephews. He leaves behind two cherished great-nieces, Novah Badley and Nae'Lonnie Badley, and one special friend,  Elder Roger "Zeke"Gates.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Houston and Doretha Allen; his brothers Houston, Sammie, Robert Earl,  Greg, Dwight, and Kenneth Allen; and sister, Mary Underwood.

Walter lived a life marked by faith, family, and service. He found joy in being surrounded by loved ones and was a source of wisdom, strength, and love to all who knew him. His legacy of kindness, devotion, and faith in God will continue to live on through his family and friends.
